p – purl
m1 – make one (increase)
*..* - repeat between the * for the number of times specified
tog – together (decrease)

Decrease Formula
*K3tog, k(n-1), yo* around, where n equals the number of stitches used in the last round. Example sequence:
*K3tog, k13, yo*
*Ktog, k12, yo*
*K3tog, k11, yo*
Continue in this way until 18 stitches remain.
The pattern:
CO 110 stitches with smaller needles. Work 1x1 rib for 14 rows or about 1½ inches.
Using the larger needles, work *k3, m1* for one round, ending with 150 stitches.
Work *K2tog, k13, yo* for 24 rounds or about 4 inches from the brim. At this point, begin decrease formula.
Knit 1 round; k2tog for one round, then cut thread and draw through all remaining loops. Finish by weaving in all ends, washing, blocking, etc.
